Special Education Advisory Committee seeks new members

Halton District School Board’s Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is seeking new members from the Halton community to apply to join.

Under Ontario’s Education Act, every school board must have a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) that advises the Board on specific information, advice and assistance to parents/guardians whose children may require additional support.  The committee makes recommendations to the Board concerning the establishment and development of special education programs and services.

Two categories of membership are:

• Local organizations to become members of the committee. The association or organization of parents must operate locally within the jurisdiction of the Board, and be affiliated with a provincial association/organization dedicated to the well-being or interests of exceptional children. The organization must meet all other requirements as outlined in Regulation 464/97 for membership to SEAC.
• ‘Members-at-large’ (maximum of three people)

Members-at-large must have the following qualifications:

• A Canadian citizen 18 years or older
• A resident within the jurisdiction of Halton District School Board
• A public school supporter

In total, 30 people (including alternates) serve on SEAC.

Board employees are not eligible for appointment.
