Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Happy Holidays Iroquois Parents:

As the holidays approach, the school is bustling with activity.  Just as a reminder, check out the daily announcements at http://irs.hdsb.ca/announcements/ to take a look at all the exciting things happening at our school!

We have 2 volunteer opportunities during this busy time, but they are events that benefit both our students and our wonderful staff at the Ridge.

First of all, our Staff Holiday Luncheon, headed up by teacher April Valera, will be taking place on Tuesday, December 17thWe are in need of both food donations and volunteers!  If you are able to contribute a salad (green, pasta or your own creation!) or a dessert/sweets, please let me know (please label food with ingredients for allergen purposes - a sticky note will do!).  Food donations can be dropped off any time Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, in the staff room, or can be delivered Monday evening to my home if needed.  Also, if you can spare a couple of hours on Tuesday anytime between 9 and 1, please let me know.  This is a fun event for the staff...one they look forward to every year and truly appreciate the efforts and contributions of the parent community.

In addition to this, my favourite event of the year is the Ridge Cares program wrapping day.  If you are unfamiliar with the Ridge Cares program, see note below.  We are in need of 6-10 volunteers to assist us with wrapping up all the wonderful items collected for our students in need.  This event really puts us all in the holiday spirit...the spirit of giving.  If you can spare an hour or two, we will be wrapping in the staff room at noon on Monday, December 16th.  Please join us for the fun!  If you are unable to join us, please consider contributing to the program in any way you can (see details below).

Also, just to remind you...IRHS is hosting an informative speaker event this Thursday, November 28th - see http://ridgeparents.blogspot.ca.  Chris Vollum, a social-media expert from our community, will be discussing Social Media Fitness... internet and social-media safety and concerns for youth.  Please come out and join us!  Also, don't forget about Tuesday @ The Ridge next week at 10am and 7pm, where the topic presented and discussed will be Sexual Health.

Let me know if you are able to contribute to our wrapping day or the staff luncheon!
