Oct 7, 2013 School Advisory Council Minutes




1.     Welcome and Opening Remarks

2.     Acceptance Club
·       Acceptance Club presented the Gender Free Washroom initiative.
·       Advisory Council supports this initiative and provided feedback and recommendations to the students on their presentation.

3.     Update – Parent Engagement Program
·       Many parents helped out with Student Registration on August 26 & 27
·       Nancy Anstett updated the Student Survival Guide and presented on the first day of school
·       Set up table on Program Night.  Parents were asking to take a copy of the Student Survival guide.
·       First Tuesday @10/7 - The Teen Brain, presented by PEP member Penny Smith.  Received several positive comments about the session.

Upcoming Events:
·       Pink Game is on October 9th.  PEP will be in charge of the BBQ.  Burgers were graciously donated by Glazier Optical.  Nancy Anstett purchased the sausages.  Cobs will be donating buns and also loan the tent for the day.  Laurie Shetler has purchased all the condiments.  Nancy Anstett borrowing the BBQ from Ancaster Little League.  240 bottles of water bought with donation from Metro.
·       Honours Breakfast is on October 10th.  Volunteers needed to hand out certificates to the students.
·       Holiday Marketplace is on November 2nd.  Volunteers needed to post flyers, put up “direction” signs at assigned locations, direct traffic in parking lot and general duties throughout the day.
4.     Principal’s Update
·       Deb Robinson presented the Principal’s report to the council (see attached).

5.     PRO Grant Application for 2013 – 14 Academic Year
·       IRHS received the PRO Grant for Social Media Awareness

6.     Next Meeting Date
·       The next School Advisory Council meeting is on Monday, November 25, 2013

·       We need to notify the Advisory Council Meeting to the whole school community.  Currently it is only going to the volunteers and parents attending the meeting.
